Media Manager by StellaCodex helps you organize WordPress media files in hierarchical folders and edit image metadata efficiently.
Free features include creating and managing media folders, assigning images to folders, filtering the Media Library by folder, editing ALT text, titles, and captions, and selecting an upload folder from the post editor.
Pro adds automatic Japanese alphabetical folder sorting, automatic folders based on post titles, immediate updates to image information in published content, media deletion tools, CSV import and export, automatic media assignment, batch content updates, and duplicate media cleanup.
The Free and Pro features are explained together on the plugin’s Help page. Free users can skip the Freemius opt-in and continue using the plugin.
External services
This plugin includes the Freemius SDK for optional usage analytics, Pro licensing, checkout, and Pro updates. Free users can skip the opt-in and continue using the plugin. No usage data is sent before an administrator explicitly opts in. When a user purchases or activates Pro, the plugin communicates with Freemius to provide licensing, payments, and updates.

- Upload the plugin ZIP from Plugins > Add New > Upload Plugin.
- Activate Media Manager by StellaCodex.
- Open Media > Media Manager in the WordPress dashboard.
- Create folders and assign media files from the Folder & ALT screen.

Can I organize media files without changing their URLs?

Yes. Folders are used for organization inside WordPress and do not move the physical files or change their existing URLs.

Can I edit image metadata from the plugin?

Yes. You can edit ALT text, titles, and captions from the Folder & ALT screen.

Can I choose an upload folder from the post editor?

Yes. The Free version includes a media-folder panel in the post editor, allowing you to select where images uploaded for that post should be organized.

What does the Pro version add?

Will deleting a folder delete its images?

No. Deleting an organizational folder does not delete the media files inside it. The images remain in the WordPress Media Library.
