The Custom Post Type Page Template plugin enables custom post types directly to add page templates of the page type.
It is unavailable to use page templates of the page type in other post types by default. Most of themes have original page templates of the page type as part of themes. Twenty Eleven also has two page templates. It is convenient directly to use page templates in custom post types except the page type, isn’t it?
The Custom Post Type Page Template plugin makes it possible to do.

Uninstall
- Deactivate the plugin
- That’s it! 🙂

The developer of my theme sent me to this plugin because he hasn't features that would allow me to choose a template for custom post types.
I was skeptical this plugin would work, but it does. Very happy with it

This plugin works great as intended. Using this with Custom Post Type created with Types plugin from Toolset (Wp-Types) and X Theme. I was banging my head trying to find easy way to assign existing X Theme template to the new custom post type. This one solved it. Many thanks!
Maybe just mention in the documentation that this has to be activated for a specific post type under Settings Menu.
