This is exactly what I was looking for, and it works great with custom post types as well as in Gutenberg editor.
Unfortunately, the quick edit function has been overlooked!

I’ve been searching for hours. It’s beyond my expectations. Just awesome. Works perfect everywhere, CPT also. And you can choose the display differently for the same taxonomy depending on the CPT. I love you, you rock!

Super simple and effective plugin.
I only wish we could be able to create new categories or tags from inside the block while creating a new post/page. That would make me give 5 stars for sure.
